Students application to the CentOS Project 2015 GSoC
In addition to the GSoC 2015 FAQ you may want to read the manual on how to apply as a student via the Google Summer of Code application process.
For the CentOS Project, we want you to introduce yourself, tell us about the ideas or projects you want to work on, and listen to the feedback of project mentors and administrators.
Join the centos-gsoc@centos.org mailing list at http://lists.centos.org/mailman/listinfo/centos-gsoc .
Introduce yourself on the public mailing list centos-gsoc@centos.org -- note that this is a public discussion list on the open Internet.
- You cannot post an email to that mailing list without joining it first.
Join the developer mailing list at http://lists.centos.org/mailman/listinfo/centos-devel for technical discussions about proposals. This is where most accepted projects will be worked on for technical content specific to the CentOS Project.
Tell us what you want to work on when you introduce yourself to the mailing list. You can find a list of ideas and mentors here.
Sometimes students have their own original idea and are looking for a mentor to work with. You can bring that idea and request for a mentor to the centos-gsoc@centos.org mailing list.
Listen to feedback that you receive on the mailing list, IRC (Freenode network on the #centos-gsoc channel), via the GSoC program website where you make the actual proposal, and/or wherever that feedback and advice comes from.

If you have questions, ask on the centos-gsoc@centos.org mailing list.
- You will have to make a profile, then submit your proposal to the CentOS Project.
You do not need to "make a connection" to the CentOS Project -- this feature is for mentors and administrators.
Mentors application to the CentOS Project 2015 GSoC
Mentors typically come with one or more ideas they would like to work on with a student.
However, during the application process, students work directly with mentors and often together make changes to the project proposal.
If you have an idea or would like to work with students as part of the CentOS Project's participation in GSoC 2015, please follow these steps:

Write up your idea using the template on this year's ideas page.
Send that write-up to centos-gsoc@centos.org; you will need to subscribe to that email list in order to post your email
If you have questions, you can find other mentors and project administrators on the Freenode IRC network in the #centos-gsoc channel.
How to connect to the CentOS Project in Google's Melange application:
Go to https://www.google-melange.com/gsoc/connection/pick/google/gsoc2015
- If needed, click Login on the left-navigation menu, then use your preferred Google account. If you don't have one, you can create a new one with an email address as the username.
Back at the first page you should then find a link (button) in the middle column "Mentors & Administrators [Create Profile]" that takes you to this page: https://www.google-melange.com/gsoc/profile/register/org_member/google/gsoc2015
Once you have created your profile, that button changes to [Startconnection], which goes here: https://www.google-melange.com/gsoc/connection/pick/google/gsoc2015
- Search for "CentOS Project" then write in a message to the admins (if you want); then "Submit" the form and it ends up on the admin's queue.
