Deprecated service
Due to the fact that upstream ipxe.org seems unmaintained , we decided to remove the boot.centos.org service, as we can't add CentOS 8/Stream support to existing .iso. Should the situation change with a new upstream service, we'd reconsider building/maintaining the service in place. The following informations are now provided on this wiki page for "references" only
Using boot.centos.org for installations
You can use the boot.centos.org service to install CentOS Linux using a tiny (1Mb) bootable iPXE .iso image. This can be used either via a real optical drive (on CD/DVD etc), or via a usb key, or directly as an iso file in virtualised environments.
Steps :
Download the CentOS-BootService-ipxe.iso boot image
- Setup the boot media for your local install by doing one of the following
- Burn it to CD/DVD media
- Use the linux 'dd' command to write it to a usb key
- Setup the file as a virtual CD in your virtualisation environment
- Boot your system with the boot media you just prepared
- You will be presented with a menu listing all options
- Select your desired target from the menu, and start the installation.
- The regular distro installer or rescue environment is started, after its fetched from the internet
|
NOTE: The installer will fetch all the required files over the network (meaning that you need direct access to internet mirrors, as it will fetch everything from mirror.centos.org machines) |
At this point, the following actions are supported:
- Install CentOS 7 - x86_64
- Install CentOS 6 - x86_64
- Install CentOS 6 - i386
- Install CentOS 5 - x86_64
- Install CentOS 5 - i386
