FOSDEM 2015
Single Point of Contact: FabianArrotin
CentOS and EPEL Meeting
Venue Info : We are going to be having this meeting at the CentOS Table in K.building at Fosdem on Sat 31st at 4:50pm local time.
Looking to have a CentOS & EPEL conversation over an early dinner ( and maybe drinks ) on Sat the 31st Jan 2015, near the Fosdem venue. The aim of this meeting is to discuss and probe options around how we might better integrate with each others efforts, and how SIG's in CentOS might be able to use and rely on EPEL repos. Please get in touch with KaranbirSingh if you are able to make it for this meeting.
People confirmed to be there at the moment :
KaranbirSingh : How can we make the multiple repos work with each other, how can centos.org content always be a higher EVR for the same components that exist in EPEL, How can CentOS SIG people feedback into the EPEL builds without needing to signup for the Fedora process, How can EPEL packages run through some level of sanity testing before they are pushed to release repos - with the tests running in sync with CentOS repos.
- Brian Stinson
- Dennis Gilmore ( maybe )
- Kaleb Keithley
- Matthias Runge
- Haïkel Guemar
- Thomas Oulevey

- Till Mass
- Anders F Björklund : Would like to talk about XFCE Desktop in CentOS / EPEL relationship with XFCE and the Alternate Desktop SIG in CentOS.

Notes from meeting (INCOMPLETE)
If you attended this meeting and wish to include any notes, discussion points, or agreements/consensus here, please do so, while understanding that others may help with recollection of details.
- Fedora Packaging Committee is willing to adapt or make changes to packaging guidelines upon request. This is already evident in the many exceptions for EPEL.
- AGREED: CentOS does not and will not attempt to distribute anything illegal, that is, for which it doesn't have the rights to redistribute. It may choose to e.g. package NVidia drivers with NVidia permission, but won't release protected codecs, non-FOSS-licensed software, and so forth.
- There is a negative perception still around the Fedora FPCA. For example, it may still require those in formal organizations to get approval from their lawyer(s) to sign the agreement. That can be a very high barrier.
- The intention of the Fedora FPCA is entirely to ensure that spec files submitted to the project carry a FOSS license. If they are submitted without a FOSS license, the FPCA authorizes the project to put an MIT license on the spec file on behalf of the copyright holder.
- EPEL has a strong brand promise around not conflicting with RHEL packages, which therefore means CentOS Linux base.
- It is possible to make it easier to get contributors in to EPEL, we can work on that.
- It is possible to have multiple versions and Software Collections within EPEL.
Event Information
FOSDEM 2015 is on 31 January & 1 February 2015 in Brussels.
- CentOS will have a dedicated booth
We are running a Dojo in Brussels the day before Fosdem, you can find more details about that on the Dojo page at http://wiki.centos.org/Events/Dojo/Brussels2015
Goals
What do we want to achieve/show at FOSDEM?
- Explain the importance of an Enterprise Linux distribution (What is it, why use it, who should use it ?)
- Explain what CentOS exactly is (Rebuild of RHEL, additional packages and community support)
- Explain how we are different from other Enterprise distributions.
- Show how all other distributions relate (bleeding/edge vs enterprise, length of support, market share, ...)
